2nd opinion
Well, I thought that we were better, but I was wrong. Just had Luka at the hospital last night. He was wheezing. Well, I didn't like the way he sounded, nor did the nurse from Children's hospital when she heard him on the phone. He was breathing really fast too. So she suggested that we take him up, so we did. When we got there he sounded better, but was still wheezing. I love this new thing where first, a resident dr comes in and examines the patient, gives their advice, than the regular staff dr. comes in and does the same. Well, the resident dr said that she would give him a breathing treatment. She leaves, the regular staff dr comes in and says that "bronchiolitis" is going around and that it was a virus and breathing treatments don't work, so just take him home. I was like, ok I didn't go to school for years for medicine, so maybe they were right and we went home. Luka was coughing all night terribly. Probably didn't sleep much. So, this morning, I called his pediatrician to inform them that he went to the hospital because he was wheezing. When the nurse at the dr's office asked what they did and I told her nothing, she couldn't believe it, so she had me take Luka up to see them. When one of Luka's many dr's examined him, he said that he was definately wheezing. I had informed him that he went to the hospital. He asked me if he was wheezing when I took him there, I said yes. He asked what they did and I said nothing. He was in amazement. He asked "they didn't do anything" and I answered "no, absolutely nothing. Not even a pulse ox like you guys did when I got here." He gave him a breathing treatment, and the wheezing improved. He said it wasn't bronchiolits because after the treatment, he got better. With bronchiolits, it doesn't. That is a way to determine whether it is bronchiolitis (the VIRUS) or not. He said it was more like bronchospasms which could have been triggered by a cold or some allergy. I can't think of anything new that Luka has been around, so I am thinking from the cold. So, we were sent home with a breathing machine. Luka is now breathing so much better and hasn't been having the coughing spells. If Children's Hospital would have done this last night, maybe Luka could have got a good night's rest. I trust all of Luka's dr's. I forget how many are in the practice, but every one of them is wonderful. You figure, we have been dealing with them going on 6 years now. I just thought, you could trust Children's Hospital too. I am tired of these dr's blowing everything off as a virus anymore. I guess that is the easy answer, isn't it. I am just glad that I took Luka today instead of trusting Children's. He just didn't sound any better today at all. I guess that is why they say get a 2nd opinion, or in my case 3rd.

I'm glad you took him to your Dr's. too. Emergency room Dr's. are the Pitts. They'll keep you waiting for hours and then do as little as possible.
